Molson Coors Beverage Company owns Coors Brewing Company, MillerCoors, Labatts Brewing Company, and Miller Brewing company, among others. Coors and Miller rank 8th and 9th as the most popular beers in the United States, with Miller High Life coming in 11th, and Miller Lite ranking 13th in the US.

“Diverse employees are a key part of how we’re creating America’s best beer company.”

Safe Spaces Program

The Miller Brewing Parent company is Molson Coors, which took over in 2005. The history of the breweries owned by Molson dates back to the 1700’s. This company knows its beer and is taking a strong stance for DE&I for its employees. Molson is known for its safe spaces initiative which involves a commitment to resilient and active listening to the community and employees lived experiences and perspectives.

Company employees can take part in the program by showing their support and engagement with a badge in their email signature saying they are willing to be allies against oppression and discrimination in the workplace.

The leadership team and CEO are honoring the importance of emotional and psychological safety at work where employees excel and are encouraged to welcome each person’s individual authenticity and intersectionality.

Training and Education

The C-Suite executive leadership team at Miller Brewing learns about their strengths as they approach their work and DE&I programs. They participate in assessments and training that includes courses and workshops such as StrengthsFinder training and coaching.

As part of Molson Coors’ long-term DE&I plan they are offering multiple learning options including online diversity training. Engagement in the form of online training is at the top of the list for Molson Coors. In addition to the flexibility of on-demand program, Molson is able to create the content that reflect scenarios employees face regularly and helps retain consistency and standardization of key concepts across the organization. E-learning allows the company to continually take the foundation it has built for various topics and update it annually or more often. Global companies often need translations in multiple languages which is easy to do in an online LMS. For the self-directed online training, travel is not required, so the carbon footprint is minimal, in line with its values and programs like responsible sourcing. Online topics may include how to identify and self-reflect on bias, introduction to privilege and how it creates inequities, bystander intervention with regard to discrimination harassment and microaggressions, intersectionality, lived experiences of marginalized employees, systemic racism, and LGBTQIA+ inclusion.

Racial Justice

The company is addressing racial equity and justice starting with leadership and working to hire more Black employees and other BIPOC employees, retain diverse talent, and promote people of color to leadership positions. The company does admit to finding a noose in an employee locker as confirmed in the human resources investigation. Racial name-calling and racial microaggressions were also confirmed issues at the company. Molson has responded with a program of listening sessions and employee focus groups.

Onsite on-location training is also in place and varies by location and COVID safety. Training is a part of employee’s and leadership’s core competencies and performance measurements.
