1. Identify and respond, by speaking up and educating others, when you hear or see someone being prejudiced. 2. Inquire about the discriminating attitudes and behaviors. This helps to intervene in a way that you will be heard, and may reduce defensiveness. 3. Be aware / conscious of your own attitudes, statements, and behaviors. 4. Promote and appeal to people's higher principles. 5. Set limits and boundaries with others concerning what is said and done in your presence and in your space. 6. Seek help when you need to work on your own prejudices, and help others to become more sensitive to diversity as you learn and grow. Therapists can do this through supervision, and support groups can challenge and confront biases, and can respectfully break down walls that prevent us from seeing these personal biases. Support groups also give us the opportunity to learn from other people's experiences. This can also be done by attending conferences and presenting at conferences. 7. Continue to be persistent in your efforts to promote respectful, balanced relationships and environments.
